The project “BioRest” is meant to establish a long-term work for the production of monomeric units like lactic acid from biogenous feedstock. The aim is to consequently synthesize polymers, modify the polymer and bled or crosslink the resulting biogenous material. Bio-plastics that can be synthesized within this project are for instance polyhydroxyalkanoates PHAs and poly lactic acid PLA. These polymers, respectively their monomeric units can be produced by bacteria, which use the remnant from the pulping process and the sugars contained in it for the biotechnological conversion.
